Hillclimbing is nearly as old as the motor car itself, the first recorded event being in June 1899 at Petersham Hill. A 325 yard section was included into the Automobile Club of Great Britain and Ireland's 'General Efficiency Trials'.
At Wiscome Park cars and motorcycles compete over a narrow winding tarmac course 900 metres long and are timed to 1/100th of a second. Speeds in excess of 100mph are attained.
